Chapel Hours
Please note: Saturday and Sunday afternoon
visits are NOT recommended without calling to see if
weddings are scheduled for that day. If a wedding
is taking place, visitors will not be permitted inside.
Call (919) 681-9414 to see if the Chapel will
be open to visitors before visiting on a weekend.
During the academic year: 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Summer hours: 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Holidays and Breaks: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Closed Christmas Day
Closed to the public for weddings, funerals, and other special events that are
not listed on the Chapel web calendar. Weddings are often held on Saturdays and some
Sundays, so please check our schedule before planning your trip. (Schedule for the week

This line can be accessed 24 hours a day. It is updated monthly and includes upcoming events
and services at the Chapel.

Parking
Visitors to the Chapel are encouraged to use the Bryan Center parking deck (Parking Garage IV)
or the Bryan Center visitors lot. The cost is $2 per hour except on Sunday mornings, when parking
is free until 1:00 p.m.
For some evening and weekend special events, overflow parking will be provided in the Biological
Sciences parking lot, on the opposite side of Science Drive from the Bryan Center and Chapel,
for $2 per hour.
During evenings and weekends, some additional free parking is available on West Campus. Limited
parking is available on the streets and in selected parking lots that do not remain gated evenings
and weekends. For information on these parking options, please consult the maps provided by Duke
Parking and Transportation Services:

Carillon Music
The University Carillonneur performs a 15-minute recital on the 50-bell carillon Monday through Friday
from 5:00 to 5:15 p.m. and before and after the Sunday worship services (at 10:45 a.m. and 12:00 noon).
The carillon is located near the top of the Chapel tower and can best be
enjoyed outside in the vicinity of the Chapel.
Organ Music
For the enjoyment of visitors to the Chapel, the Benjamin N. Duke Memorial Flentrop organ is played most
weekdays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. At other times during the day, one might hear an organist practicing
for a special event or service.
Tower Access
Access to the top of the Chapel tower is closed to the public. The small elevator was designed as a
service elevator rather than for tourists. The circular stairway to the top of the tower is opened only
at special times for Duke students (e.g., orientation and graduation).
