Duke University’s motto Eruditio et Religio, Education
united with Religion, reminds us that we do not check our brains
at the doors of Duke Chapel any more than at the doors of Perkins
Library. Jesus told us to love God not only with our bodies and
souls, but also with our minds.
We are working hard to provide students opportunities for study,
reflection, and struggle with Scripture, faith, life, and above
all, God. As Jacob struggled with God at the river’s edge,
coming out of the fray with a new name, a new identity, a new
calling, so we too struggle with God, to discover new and creative
ways to unite faith and knowledge, religion and education.
So join a discussion group or Bible study, test your ideas against
those of others, tune your mind and heart to God’s Spirit,
enter the fray — God might just lead you to places you would
never have dreamed.
Lunch with a Preacher
Have a question about faith, theology, the Bible? Let one of us
take you to lunch and let’s talk. Engage us, push us, question
us. We want to be in dialogue with you about things that matter,
about how God is working in your life. Contact Dean Kocher,
Keith Daniels, Director of Duke Chapel Pathways, or
Patrick Thompson, Director of Black Campus Ministries.
Our more than 20 Religious Life groups
are working hard to provide opportunities for learning and growth. Follow this link for a
